The Verdier Circle of Friends helps to sponsor the Leland Drama Program. Each year Leland puts on wonderful new plays, which is made possible because of the donations from the Verdier Circle. If you enjoy Leland Drama, consider joining this group so productions like Children of Eden, and this fall’s Oliver, will continue to become even better!
Several productions have been put on since the start of the program in 2005, including Seussical, Honk, School House Rock, Little Shop of Horrors, Annie, The Wiz, and this year’s Oliver, which will be held the first and second weekends of November. These productions are all made possible by the Verdier Circle of Friends. Several other art groups are able to perform each year because of this organization, like Comet Chorale and Advanced Musical Theater. Also, Instrumental Exploration has been created at Leland, a class where students can learn to play the piano or the guitar.
Joining the Verdier Circle will definitely be making a difference in the lives of Leland students. According the American Alliance for Theater and Education, “Students involved in drama performance coursework or experience outscored non-arts students on the 2005 SAT by an average of 65 points in the verbal component and 34 points in the math component.” The Verdier Circle not only helps the students on their test scores, but by giving them the opportunity to participate in the arts, students learn life lessons like working together, thinking creatively and learning to solve problems. The Verdier Circle creates incredible opportunities for Leland, and, as a small school, we are incredibly fortunate to have this program.
